UA Canada National Parental Wellness Program Coverages
The UA Canada National Wellness Program includes the Member Assistance Program (MAP) and also the Parental Wellness Program, consisting of the Parental Wellness Benefit and the Maternity & Parental EI Assistance Benefits for eligible members.

Member Assistance Program (MAP)
Your MAP is a confidential and voluntary support service that can help you take the first step toward change. Let us help you find solutions to the challenges you face at any age and stage of life. You and your immediate family members (spouse and dependent children) can access immediate and confidential support in a way that is most suited to your preferences, comfort level and lifestyle.
Pregnancy Benefits
The Pregnancy Benefit provides financial assistance to UA members who are pregnant while working in the trades and working in an environment that poses a risk to both the mother and unborn child. This fund will allow a pregnant member to take paid time off prior to the birth of her child without having to exhaust her federal government employment insurance maternity/parental benefits.
The Maternity & Paternity Supplementary Unemployment Benefit provides a weekly financial top up of $100/week for up to 50 weeks that will assist families financially while they are off work caring for their children during their first year of life. This top up will work in conjunction with EI Maternity Benefits and/or EI Parental Benefits, allowing the mother and/or father to stay at home, creating a family bond unburdened by financial loss that can come with taking paternity and maternity leave.
Maternity Benefit Plan
The UA Maternity Benefit plan is through UA International, where members can receive an additional short term disability benefit following their childbirth.
This benefit is is payable in the amount of $500/week for up to 6 weeks and is available to members in good standing who have given birth. This benefit can be combined with the UA Canada Maternity SUB, but must be applied for separately.
